If you’re a fan of college football – or just great college football commentary – you have to love Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson. They are, quite simply, two of the very best in the business, and they’ll be calling the Iron Bowl this Saturday, when No. 2 Alabama (10-1) plays at Auburn (6-5).
Damon Amendolara just hopes this isn’t the final Iron Bowl for the dynamic SEC-calling duo. Will we be seeing – or better yet, hearing – Lundquist in 2016?
“Well, if it’s up to me, yes,” the 75-year-old told Amendolara, who was filling in as host of CBS Sports Radio’s The Doug Gottlieb Show. “There are implications there. I think so. Gary and I have evolved over a decade now into, I think, a very good partnership. We are like ‘The Odd Couple.’ We really are. And I never thought I would say this, but he’s Walter Matthau and I’m Jack Lemon. We just couldn’t be two (more) different personalities, and yet, we respect each other. We trust each other. I admire him as an analyst like few others. So I think they’re going to let us have at least one or two more years.”
Kickoff for Alabama/Auburn is at 3:30 p.m. ET.
