The Philadelphia Eagles are back in the Super Bowl for the first time since 2004, and this team – just like the ’04 team – will have to beat Tom Brady and the Patriots to claim the first Super Bowl ring in franchise history.
Can they do it with Nick Foles? Can Foles beat Brady and win it all?
“Oh, absolutely,” three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth said on The DA Show “I think the Philadelphia Eagles are a really good football team, and Nick Foles has been playing great.”
Foles has gone 49-of-63 (77.8 percent) for 598 yards and three touchdowns in the playoffs, leading Philly to wins over the Falcons and Vikings. He’ll go for his third straight postseason win in Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis on Feb. 4.
“Ever since probably the second quarter of that game against Atlanta – when they started going to a more collegiate-style of run-pass-option offense for Nick Foles – he has been lights-out,” Schlereth said. “Once they got him into a rhythm, they’ve mixed in the rest of their game plan and he’s been exceptional – and he’s been exceptional under pressure. He was against the Vikings all day in the NFC Championship.”
Foles threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns against the No. 1 defense in the NFL. The Eagles trailed Minnesota 7-0 in the first quarter. Then they scored 38 unanswered points.
It was jaw-dropping.
“So, yeah, absolutely (the Eagles can win the Super Bowl),” Schlereth reiterated. “They’ve got an outstanding football team.”
